 Our Specialty Materials group is seeking an Embedded Software / Firmware / Electrical Engineer with the ability and experience to write and code software from high level user applications to low level embedded applications. You will be an active part of a multi-disciplinary team working on projects that span a wide range of research projects encompassing commercial, military and medical technologies. Innovation and technical problem solving will be a major part of your position.


  • 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent; MS a plus
  • 8-plus years of experience designing and implementing embedded systems hardware
  • C++ programming skills
  • Contribute to the development of product / system architecture.
  • Signal processing experience for commercial, medical or military applications.
  • Hands on experience in hardware validation.
  • High degree of comfort working on early phase research projects.
  • Work independently on small projects or in larger project teams.
  • Comfortable programming in Labview.
  • Ability to read schematics.
  • Previous experience releasing the magic smoke from electrical components without panicking.


  • Experience with other programming languages (Python, perl, Tcl, etc.)
  • General knowledge or experience with various embedded sensors (temperature, light, inertial, including non-invasive physiology type.)
  • Experience developing on small, low-power embedded platforms and secure microcontrollers (MSP430, PIC, ARM Cortex-Mx)
  • Experience with FPGAs (Xilinx, Altera, Lattice, Microsemi)
  • Familiarity with wireless technologies (WiFi, ZigBee, Bluetooth, etc.)
  • Familiarity with common communications protocols (SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, RS-232)
  • Experience with embedded Linux, Android and iOS.
  • Experience with data analysis including statistics and regression analysis.
  • Software modeling for algorithm development (Neural networks, optimal detection schemes)

 Extra Credit:

  • Experience in EM modeling (RF or Antennas.)
  • Experience in circuit modeling.
  • Experience designing hardware and schematics using Altium.
  • Experience writing proposals for future technical adventures.
